Formulation: Herb of Melissa officinalis
Characteristics: It contains ethereal oil with strong lemon odor (up to 0.3%), tannin, phenolic acids, triterpenic acids.
Description: Mixture of the parts of stems, leaves, blossom and flower buds, which have passed through the sieve with the mesh size 7mm. The colour varies from green to greenish brown with grayish green, light green, light brown, brown, brownish white and yellowish white inclusions. The smell is weak, aromatic. The taste of water extract is spiced bitter.
Pharmacotherapeutic group: Phytogenic sedative medication
Pharmacological properties: Infusion of the Herb of Melissa officinalis produces mild sedative effect and possesses moderate antispasmatic effect.
Posology and method of administration: 2-3 g (1 tablespoon) of product is placed into enameled ware, poured with 200 ml (1 glass) of hot boiled water, covered and infused 15 minutes on boiling water bath, filtered. The remaining product is squeezed out. The volume of the obtained extract is diluted with the boiled water up to 200 ml. The extract is administered hot 1/3-1/2 of the glass BID or TID. The course of treatment is 3-4 weeks. The infusion must be shaken before administration.
Interaction with other medicinal products: It strengthens the effect of other hypnotic medicines and the drugs inhibiting the central nervous system.
Indications for use: Adults may use this product at hyperemotivity, irritability and sleep disturbance (initial insomnia, early awakening).
Contradictions: Hypersensitivity to the drug; sleepiness, apathy, dormancy, pediatric use up to 18 years.
Usage at pregnancy, lactation period: It is possible to use the product during the pregnancy and lactation period, if the expected benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk for the fetus and child. The physician’s consulting is necessary.
Adverse effects: Allergic reactions are possible.
Specific instructions: In case of idiosyncrasy Melissa officinalis infusion is substituted for Valeriana products. During the treatment it is necessary to take care at driving and other potentially dangerous actions which require the concentration of the attention and promptitude of psychomotor ability.
Pharmaceutical form: Powdered herb, 35 g or 50 g in carton packages with inner paper pack. The text and instruction are indicated on the pack in full.
Storage conditions: The product should be kept in a dry dark place. Prepared infusion should be kept in a cool place no more than 2 days. Keep out of reach of children.
Period of validity: 3 years. Do not use after the date of expiry indicated on the label.
